Accommodations
ELL Accomodations
When reading texts, provide several different Calla Learning Strategies. Provide interactive story reading by stopping at important parts to place images in the correct location on the pages and discuss their placement. Allow students to learn important vocabulary words while reaing by placing important words on chart paper. Discuss these important words as they are placed on the chart paper. Have students form sentences, using these important vocabulary words. Use lots of visuals, such as pictures in word documents, videos, or student drawings. Have students use graphic organizers. They help students manage and visually see their thoughts.
Students with Special Needs Accomodations
- Interactive story reading: stop at important parts, have students put their pictures on the pages, and talk about interesting facts
- Very Important Words- have students think of very important words while reading and write these words on chart paper. Talk about these words and why they are so important. Form a few class sentences that use these important words.
- Text lookbacks- go back to the text and review new concepts and make connections to previously learned concepts. Can also do a text look back after reading the second book and compare two insects.
- Picture this! Read aloud a small section of text and have a quick draw illustrating what they just heard. Have students compare their images to the images that the illustrator drew
- Hula hoop fun- set out two hula hoops and have the students place descriptions that describe the similarities and differences between insects
- Informational class books- students write and illustrate a page in the book that is eventually made and placed into the classroom library for students to read
