Learning Objectives for Insect Life Cycle Unit:
Overall Learning Objectives:
-Compare the differences and similarities between young animals and adult animals
-Examine the different stages of insect life cycles and apply their findings towards their final project
-Identify the differences between animal and insect life cycles
Activity Learning Objectives:
-Students will identify the main insect body parts, changes as they grow, and what insects do in the natural world.
-Students will identify similarities and differences among various different insects, such as caterpillars, mosquitoes, worms, and ladybugs.
-Students will recognize that insect life cycles are similar to and different from human life cycles
-Students will identify that one difference between humans and insects is that insects lay eggs
-Students will identify the life cycle of a worm and butterfly
WIDA Language Objectives:
-Students will be able to use images in text or on the board to learn vocabulary about insects
-Students will be able to use cognates to understand words they are not familiar with
-Students will be able to use a dance to a song to help them learn the parts of an insect compared to a human
-Students will be able to use graphic organizers to understand the similarities and differences between insects, as well as between insects and humans.
-Students will be able to cooperatively work with a partner to learn the life cycle of an insect
-Students will be able to observe teacher modeling before completing an activity, such as a graphic organizer
